Get your SmartThings access token
Log into your SmartThings account through your web browser and navigate to the account settings area. Look for a section called 'Tokens' where you can generate a new access token—this is a special secure key that will allow Make to connect to your SmartThings devices. Click the button to generate a new token and immediately copy it to a safe place, as you won't be able to view it again later.
Open your Make scenario
Switch to your Make account and open the automation scenario where you want to use SmartThings. A scenario is Make's term for an automation workflow where you'll build the connection between your apps. If you haven't created a scenario yet, start a new one to begin setting up your automation.
Add the SmartThings module
Inside your Make scenario, search for and add a SmartThings module from the available applications. This module represents the SmartThings action or trigger you want to use in your automation. Once you've added the module to your scenario, you'll see an option to create a new connection.
Create a new connection
Click on the 'Create a connection' button that appears when you add the SmartThings module. Make will prompt you to set up the connection between the two services. You can optionally give your connection a descriptive name like 'My SmartThings Home' to help you identify it later if you create multiple connections.
Enter your access token
Paste the access token you copied from SmartThings into the authentication field provided by Make. This is the key step that securely links your SmartThings account with Make's platform. Once you've entered the token, click to confirm and create the connection—Make will verify your credentials and you'll be ready to start building your automation.
