How to set up Vapi and OpenAI (ChatGPT, Whisper) in 5 easy steps

Get your Vapi API key

Log into your Vapi account and navigate to the API Keys section by clicking 'Build' and then 'Vapi API Keys' in the left menu. You'll find a Private Key here, which is a special code that allows Make to connect to your Vapi account. Copy this key and save it somewhere secure, as you'll need it in the next steps to establish the connection.

Open your Make scenario

Sign into your Make account and open the automation workflow where you want to use Vapi. Search for and add a Vapi module to your scenario from the module library. When you add the module for the first time, Make will automatically prompt you to create a new connection between the two platforms.

Start the connection setup

Click the 'Create a connection' button when prompted by Make. This opens a setup form where you'll provide the credentials needed to link your Vapi account with Make. The form is straightforward and only requires a couple of pieces of information to establish the secure connection.

Enter your connection details

In the connection form, paste the Private Key you copied from Vapi into the 'API Key' field. Make sure to paste the entire key exactly as it appears without any extra spaces. You can also give your connection a descriptive name like 'My Vapi Account' to help you identify it later, though this is optional.

Save and verify the connection

Click the 'Save' button to complete the setup. Make will automatically verify that your API key is valid and that it can successfully connect to your Vapi account. Once confirmed, you'll see a success message, and your Vapi modules will be ready to use in your automated workflows.
