Gather your access credentials

Before connecting your apps in Make, you'll need to collect special access codes called API keys from each application you want to link. These keys act like digital passwords that allow Make to communicate with your apps securely. Log into your application, navigate to the settings or developer section, and locate where API keys are managed—for example, in Anthropic Claude, you'll find a key icon in the bottom-left corner that takes you to the API keys area.

Generate a new API key

Once you've found the API key section in your application, create a fresh key specifically for your Make connection. Click the button to generate a new key and give it a clear, descriptive name like 'Make Integration' so you can identify it later. This naming practice helps you keep track of which keys are used for different purposes and simplifies managing your security settings in the future.

Securely save your API key

Immediately after generating your API key, copy it and store it somewhere safe like a password manager. Most applications only display the complete key once for security reasons, so you won't be able to view it again later if you lose it. Treat this key with the same care as a password—anyone who has access to it can connect to your account through Make, so keeping it confidential is essential.

Create your connection in Make

Log into your Make account and begin creating your automation by adding a module for the application you want to connect. When you add the module for the first time, Make will prompt you to create a connection. Click the 'Create a connection' button, give your connection a meaningful name like 'My Claude Account' to help you identify it, and paste the API key you copied earlier into the appropriate field.

Save and start automating

After entering your API key and connection details, click the 'Save' button to establish the connection. Make will test the credentials to ensure they work correctly and may ask you to confirm that you authorize Make to access your account. Once your connection is successfully created, you can begin building automations that move data and trigger actions between your connected applications, creating powerful workflows that save you time.
