How to setup WordPress and Google Vertex AI (Gemini) in 5 easy steps
Set up your Google Cloud project
Log into Google Cloud Platform and create a new project by clicking 'Create or select a project' and then 'New project'. Give it a name and click 'Create'. This project acts as the foundation for connecting Google Vertex AI to Make. After creating your project, make sure it's selected in the dropdown menu at the top of the page. Then navigate to 'APIs & Services' and 'Library', search for 'Vertex AI Gemini API', and click 'Enable' to activate it for your project.
Configure Google security settings
In Google Cloud Platform, find 'Google Auth Platform' in the sidebar and click 'Get Started'. Enter 'Make' as your app name, provide your email address, and select 'External' as the audience type. This sets up the security permissions Make needs. In the Branding section, add 'make.com' and 'integromat.com' as authorized domains. Then go to 'Clients', click 'Create Client', choose 'Web application', and add the redirect URI: 'https://www.make.com/oauth/cb/google-vertex-ai'. Save the Client ID and Client Secret that are generated.
Connect Google Vertex AI to Make
Log into your Make account and add a Google Vertex AI module to your automation scenario. Click 'Create a connection' and give it a name if you'd like. Then click 'Sign in with Google' and follow the prompts to authenticate. Once you've signed in and granted access, your connection is established. You can now use Google Vertex AI features in your Make automations to work with AI capabilities.
Install and activate the Make plugin in WordPress
Download the Make Connector plugin from the WordPress plugin page. In your WordPress Admin panel, go to 'Plugins', click 'Add Plugins', then 'Upload Plugin'. Select the downloaded file and click 'Install now', then 'Activate Plugin'. After activation, you'll see a new 'Make' item in your WordPress admin menu. Go to 'Settings' then 'Permalinks' and change from 'Plain' to 'Post name', then save. This ensures Make can communicate properly with your WordPress site.
Connect WordPress to Make
In your WordPress Admin panel, click 'Make Connector' in the sidebar and go to 'General Settings'. Click 'Reveal' next to the API Key field and copy this key—it's like a secure password for Make to access your site. Log into Make, add a WordPress module to your scenario, and click 'Create a connection'. Enter your WordPress site's URL followed by '/wp-/' (for example: 'https://your-site.com/wp-/'), paste your API Key, and click 'Save'. Your WordPress site is now connected to Make.
