Find the RSS feed URL you want to monitor

Before you can connect RSS to Make, you need to locate the web address of the RSS feed you want to track. Most websites make this straightforward by adding '/feed' or '/rss' to the end of their main URL, like 'www.example.com/feed'. Many sites also display their RSS feed link in the footer or sidebar of their pages. If you can't find it there, you can view the website's source code by pressing Ctrl+U on Windows or Command+Option+U on Mac, then search for words like 'rss' or 'feed' to reveal the feed URL.

Set up the RSS feed watcher in Make

In Make, start by selecting the 'Watch RSS Feed Items' trigger, which automatically monitors your chosen RSS feed for new content. Once you've added this trigger to your workflow, paste the RSS feed URL you found into the URL field. This tells Make exactly which feed to watch, and it will check regularly for new articles or posts. Make sure the URL is complete and correct so the connection works properly.

Choose how many items to process

Configure how many feed items Make should handle each time it checks the RSS feed by adjusting the 'Maximum number of returned items' setting. It's best to start with a modest number like 10 or 20 items to avoid overwhelming the system. If you're monitoring a website that publishes content very frequently, you might need to set your Make scenario to run more often, such as every few hours, to ensure you don't miss any new posts before they disappear from the feed.

Connect RSS content to OpenAI for processing

After your RSS trigger is set up and capturing content, you can connect it directly to OpenAI GPT-3 to automatically process the articles. The RSS module will gather information like article titles, descriptions, and full content from the feed. You can then send this content to OpenAI to create summaries, extract important points, or generate new content based on what the RSS feed is capturing.

Retrieve specific RSS items on demand

If you don't need continuous monitoring but want to pull specific RSS content when needed, use the 'Retrieve RSS Feed Items' action instead of the watch trigger. This action lets you fetch feed content on demand, which is perfect when you want to work with existing articles rather than waiting for new ones. Provide the feed URL, and you can even specify a date range to only retrieve content from a particular time period, helping you focus on exactly the items you need.
